大凧合戦紹介 What's GIANT KITE WAR？
概要 About
大凧合戦は刈谷田川両岸から揚げた大凧を絡め、どちらか一方の糸が切れるまで引き合い勝敗を決する合戦です。
右岸の見附市今町の６組と、左岸の長岡市中之島の５組に分かれて行い、勝ったほうが相手の凧を戦利品として獲得できます。
毎年６月の第一土曜日から三日間開催されます。

起源 Origin
起源は三百数十年程前。信濃の紙商人が端午の節句に刈谷田川堤防にて大凧を作り、大空に揚げたのが始まりとされています。
その後、江戸時代の天明３年雨季に度々決壊した刈谷田川の改修で、堤防を踏み固める一策として行われた凧揚げが年間行事となり今に至ります。

地絡めは、風が強すぎて中断された時や、無風状態の時のための合戦方法です。
地上で空中戦同様に糸を絡ませキャラにかけます。中央に居る旗持ちの合図で一気に引き合います。決着は糸が切れるまで行います。
